A resident “passionate” about her community has joined St Peter’s Parish Council.

Angie Wytcherley was co-opted onto the council after stating her case to members as they considered four candidates to fill a vacancy after former councillor Linda Murray stood down.

Angie brings experience of a background in volunteer work to her new role.

She said: “For several years I was a volunteer with Noah’s Ark, an organisation that helped children and young adults struggling to cope with bereavement.

“For over 10 years I was a member of Worcester Lions Club, participating in numerous activities for Worcester and the global communities, including the Worcester Santa Sleigh.

“I served as president for one year during this time.”

She is currently a volunteer at both Worcester and Malvern theatres.

A St Peter’s resident for more than 20 years, she worked for a manufacturing company in Droitwich for 27 years before retiring two years ago.

Angie said: “As a longstanding resident of St Peter’s I am passionate about this community.

“My main concerns include helping to maintain St Peter’s as a great place for the residents to live – the protection of the local environment, the aesthetics of our green spaces, the maintenance of the pathways, walkways and play areas.

“I believe local planning applications need to be monitored to try to ensure, where possible, they do not have an adverse effect on the residents of St Peter’s.”

She added: “I have, on several occasions, raised concerns with various parish councillors.

“On hearing of the vacancy on the parish council I thought this could be an opportunity for me to assist in helping to resolve people’s issues and concerns.”

She went on: “I bring to the role my enthusiasm, passion and care for the people and community in which I live and help to make the council more diverse, being the only female councillor.”

The other candidates for the vacancy, who also presented their cases to be co-opted, were Anna Donaldson, Tom Piotrowski and Margaret Wrightson.

The parish council’s vice-chairman, Alan Tidy, said: “I think these are the four best presentations I have heard,” while his fellow member, Roger Knight, said: “I have been on the council for two years. I think the candidates here tonight are by far the best.”

Chairman Alan Tucker urged the candidates not selected to look out for future opportunities to join.
