Call for change to emptying of dog waste bins

A St Peter’s parish councillor has called for a change in the scheduling of dog waste bins being emptied.

John Renshaw wants Worcester City Council to make the change as the bins are often overflowing with dog waste bags.

He acted after the recurring problem had been highlighted by a ward resident.

He said: “This isn’t the first occasion this has been an issue.”

He added: “When I walked around the parks I discovered it wasn’t a one off. There were a number in a similar condition.

“I reported it to the city council and by lunchtime the bins had been emptied.”

Mr Renshaw went on: “I’ve since discovered that the scheduled service days for emptying the dog bins are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“This, of course, means that every week there is a five-day gap when the bins aren’t emptied and thinking back the instances of overflowing dog bins are usually on Mondays and Tuesdays.

“A simple solution to this would be for the parish council to write to the city council to see if there could be a more even split in the service days, that is instead of having a two and a five-day gap between the bins being emptied each week, have a three and a four-day gap instead.”

The issue was discussed during a meeting of St Peter’s Parish Council, with vice-chairman Alan Tidy saying: “In summer it stinks to high heaven.”

He also expressed his concern over dog waste being put in bins in children’s play areas.
