Seasonal message from Steve Mackay, City and County Councillor, St Peter’s Ward and Division

As we approach the season of goodwill, we can all reflect on our experiences over the past months.

Times have not been easy for many, with people being furloughed, looking after children at a time when parents have been working from home and making decisions regarding how we look after the health of ourselves and our loved ones.

But I have seen how so many in St Peter’s and Battenhall wards have come together as a community to help not only relatives but strangers who have needed assistance.

From our own local Covid Support Group to the magnificent amount of food and health items provided across the division to the Foodbank on a regular basis, your generosity has been overwhelming.

I stood as a councillor here to try to assist residents and help wherever I can to alleviate problems and promote better living. So, while I have helped put into place arrangements for some of these projects, it is you who have tirelessly helped to make the lives of others more bearable under such trying circumstances.

As we move towards a new year, I want to take another opportunity to thank you for what is really ‘working together.’

I’m sure that there will be challenges to face in 2022 but having seen what is achievable, I do believe that by continuing to work collectively we can face difficulties and setbacks with a positive attitude.

Whenever I visit residents I almost always receive encouraging words and this support makes it so much easier to continue to push for better things for St Peter’s and Battenhall.

I would also like to take this opportunity to consider the extraordinary efforts of our Keyworkers, of whom there are so many. Without their expertise our lives would have been so much more difficult.

Now, as we approach Christmas, I really hope you are able to spend time as you want to, perhaps with your loved ones and friends or taking some time for yourselves remembering, as I mentioned earlier, that this is the season of peace and goodwill.

Finally, I thank you for allowing me to represent your interests and wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
