Group to monitor development by Parkway station

A group made up of members of parish councils concerned about development of thousands of new homes around Worcestershire Parkway rail station has met Wychavon district planners to discuss the issue.

The group has members from Whittington, Norton-juxta-Kempsey, Stoulton, White Ladies Aston, Churchill and Drakes Broughton parish councils.

The aim of the group is to act in a co-ordinated manner to achieve the best possible outcomes for the areas affected.

Under the South Worcester Development Plan Review (SWDP Review) 10,000 new homes are earmarked for land either side of the B4084 next to the rail station, bounded by the M5 and Stoulton.

Public consultation over the scheme was due to begin next February but has been delayed until July, 2022.

The development would be near properties in Norton parish’s Woodbury Land and High Park.

Norton-juxta-Kempsey Parish Council intends to hold a parish public briefing before the public consultation gets under way next year.

Whittington parish councillor Katie Lambeth-Mansell, who attended the meeting with Wychavon planning officers, described it as “good” to her fellow members of Whittington Parish Council.

She added that follow-up meetings were planned.

Around 30 people attended the initial meeting.
