Measures taken to stop park intrusions

Work to secure parks in St Peter’s following occupations of them by groups of travellers last year is progressing members of St Peter’s Parish Council heard.

Parish councillor Alan Tidy told fellow members during a meeting: “I think it’s been moving, in my experience of local government, at a reasonable pace.”

Action has been taken to step up security to prevent repeats of last year’s incidents when travellers parked their vehicles on Power Park and Grasshopper Park for up to a week before moving on.

Among the work carried out has been the installation of a height gauge in Trefoil Close and the replacement of a gate at the top of Battenhall Field.

Mr Tidy said further bollards needed to be put in “because there’s quite a few places where we still need them”.
