Tour De Worcestershire Challenge to raise money for breast unit and hospitals charity

The inaugural Tour De Worcestershire Challenge takes place in September to raise funds to support the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.

A team made up from local Worcestershire businesses will attempt to complete a mammoth 100-mile mini-sportive with the aim to raising over £2,500.

Organised by Rebecca Widdowson of Hallmark Hulme Solicitors, alongside Willcox Matthews Recruitment, the companies were inspired by the work of the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital through the Covid-19 pandemic and the care and compassion provided by the team at Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

Rebecca said: “After being in lockdown for what seems so long and seeing and experiencing the work of these amazing charities, we couldn’t wait to get started and raise as much money as we can.

“We know 100 miles is a big challenge but that it makes the fundraising special.”

The route will be carefully planned out, starting at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in the morning and will aim to finish back at the Breast Unit in the hospital grounds late afternoon.

Rebecca, who is also taking part in the ride, on Sunday, September 5, added: “All the participants involved are aware or have experienced the work of these local charities.

“Training will be ramped up in the next few weeks and, as a keen cyclist, I am confident we will all be ready for the challenge.”

Jason Levy of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support from these very special Worcestershire businesses and everyone who is supporting them on this gruelling cycling challenge.

“It’s thanks to inspirational fundraisers like these that we can continue to put patients first, funding additional services to support the staff and the trust. We’d like to wish them the best of luck”.

Alexandra Craigie of Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, said: “We’re really excited and proud to be part of this new event.

“Every penny really does help us continue to fund the vital work of the unit supporting the people of Worcestershire affected by breast cancer”.
