Worcester City Council advises trio of ways to recycle Christmas trees

Worcester City Council is recommending three different ways residents can get their Christmas trees recycled.

They can be taken to one of the household waste recycling centres operated by Worcestershire County Council, arrangements can be made for it to be collected by St Richard’s Hospice or they can use their brown garden waste bin, if they have one.

Trees can be deposited in skips provided at two locations:

Household Waste Recycling Centre, Bilford Road

Open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm, Sunday,  10am to 4pm.

Closed on New Year’s Day.

Household Waste Recycling Centre, Hallow Road

Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, Saturday, 8am to 12.30pm.

Not open Sundays.

Closed on New Year’s Day.

Allow around 15 minutes before closing time to put the tree in the skip provided and remember to remove all tree decorations first.

Alternatively, residents who have signed up to the city council’s brown bin waste service can use that method to dispose of their Christmas tree when collections resume in March.

Sue Horrobin, Head of Environmental Services at Worcester City Council, said: "Christmas tree recycling is one of our great success stories, with more and more residents using now using the facilities at Bilford Road and Hallow Road each year.

"Of course if householders own a shredder they can chip their own trees - chippings make a great weed suppressant if they are spread thickly.”

Residents can also use the fundraising scheme launched by St Richard’s Hospice.

Thanks to volunteers, the charity will collect and recycle Worcester residents’ trees in exchange for a donation to support its free care to patients and loved ones.
