Worcestershire cabinet members welcome Budget announcements
Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care has welcomed the Chancellor’s Budget announcement of extra cash for adult social care.
Conservative councillor Adrian Hardman said: "This is a good start in addressing the need to meet increasing demands on adult social care nationally.
"Although this additional, much-needed funding is welcomed, it's only the beginning when it comes to tackling this national issue.
"We want to make sure everyone in Worcestershire lives independently for as long as is possible and the ever increasing demand on services means further funding is needed if we are to achieve this in the county."
His fellow Conservative councillor Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, said: "The money allocated from central government's budget … towards improving the network and quality of roads, highways and infrastructure is very much welcomed here in Worcestershire.
Our investment into infrastructure is greater now than at any stage in the last 30 years and with the progress of major projects such as the Southern Link Road and Worcestershire Parkway at the forefront of this, the county will continue to be 'Open for Business' for many years to come."
He added that the "allocation will help us as we continue to build on our extensive road maintenance programme across the county and keep Worcestershire moving, all year round.
"Our road quality has been recognised by the Department for Transport as being among the best in the country in recent years and we are extremely keen for this to continue going forward."
Worcestershire County Council has an annual net budget of more than £324 million. Just under 40 per cent of the budget is allocated specifically to adult social care.
